Maurizio Binaghi studied history and Italian literature at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). After graduating in 1997, he worked as an assistant at the Chair of Contemporary History at the same university. And it is his favourite subject that he has been teaching for several years at the Cantonal Liceo di Lugano 1, as well as history didactics for the Department of Education and Learning of SUPSI (University of Applied Sciences of Italian Switzerland). He also serves as an external history examiner in Ticino's lower secondary schools.
His research focuses mainly on contemporary history and the right of asylum. In 2002 he published the volume “Addio, Lugano bella. Gli esuli politici nella Svizzera italiana di fine Ottocento (1866-1895)” (Dadò) and, in 2008, together with Roberto Sala, “La frontiera contesa. I piani svizzeri di attacco all'Italia nel rapporto segreto del colonnello Arnold Keller (1870-1918)” (Casagrande).
