In 2025 AVIS celebrates its 60th anniversary of uninterrupted commitment to promoting blood donation, an act of pure and selfless altruism. Founded in 1965, AVIS has always aimed to actively recruit donors and raise awareness of the importance of this vital gesture.
Blood donation is a demonstration of unconditional solidarity, particularly meaningful in a world often dominated by materialism. Voluntary blood donors embody values of altruism and generosity, overcoming every barrier of race, religion, gender or political opinion.
This year the AVIS Zurigo group (Gruppo Limmattal) is also celebrating its fifteenth anniversary. Since it was founded, the group has organised three blood donation drives a year at the St. Agatha parish centre, attracting up to eighty donors in just two and a half hours. These events have become a regular fixture, evidence of the strong bond between the community and the cause of blood donation.
The anniversary celebrations have a twofold aim: to thank the donors and the members of the board, passionate promoters of this noble cause, and to attract new donors so that the work of AVIS continues in the decades to come. Raising awareness is also a priority for AVIS: successful examples include the meeting with the students of the Liceo Vermigli and the six new volunteers who decided to join the association. These encounters are fundamentally important in encouraging the new generations to take an active part in volunteering and donation events.
This year, in addition to the group donation drives and the planned activities, such as the one on 26 June at the St. Agatha parish centre in Dietikon, AVIS has scheduled several conferences and a possible health symposium as part of the jubilee celebrations. Giving blood is more than a simple gesture: it is a responsibility that involves personal and collective commitment. It means connecting deeply with others, creating a network of solidarity that enriches both the giver and the receiver. It is an act of altruism that saves lives and underlines the importance of belonging to a community built on solidarity.
