It is Carlo Verdone’s birthday, but the gift is one he gave us a few weeks ago. Conceived with Nicola Guaglione, Carlo Verdone gives his audience another piece of himself, with a rather evocative title. Vita da Carlo (A Life as Carlo) is a new attempt for the Roman producer, but also an opportunity: that of a kind of autobiography that tries to shed light, blending the actor’s fame as a comedian with his private life, up to an incredible plot twist. One day, on social media, a video goes viral and Carlo receives the proposal to become the new mayor of Rome! How will he reconcile this opportunity with everything else? How will he combine this role with his career, his private life, the people who revolve around him?
Vita da Carlo is not, however, only the series of a famous actor, but that of a man, the ordinary man Carlo Verdone who goes well beyond his position: who welcomes the fans; strives to keep his family together; and loves cinema as much as his city, Rome. Accompanying him, in this sort of baring that sheds only the actor’s garments, there is also a really fine cast: from Max Tortora, the friend Max, his companion in adventures; to Monica Guerritore, in the role of Sandra, his ex-wife; from Antonio Bannò, the daughter’s boyfriend; passing through Caterina De Angelis (in her acting debut) who is Maddalena, the daughter; to Filippo Conti, the second-born son.
This is how Carlo Verdone describes the series in an interview: “After the end of Benedetta Follia (Blessed Madness, look at the photos of the event in Zurich) I had the chance to think about myself and about how absurd life can be. I wanted to try my hand at something new, something different from the works I had brought to completion. And so, together with Nicola Guaglione, we let the idea I had in mind grow and, only at a second stage, I thought it was perfect for a TV series. The entire script? It was finished in just two and a half months. It was exactly the right project to carry forward”.
And so good luck to Carlo Verdone and, once again, all the best!
