EXTENSION OF THE VALIDITY OF IDENTITY AND RECOGNITION DOCUMENTS TO 30 SEPTEMBER 2021.
Pursuant to art. 2, paragraph 1 of Decree-Law no. 56 of 30 April 2021, the validity of Italian identity documents with an expiry date from 31 January 2020 onwards is extended until 30 September 2021.
As regards returns to Italy, it is advisable to print the attached consular declaration certifying the extension of the validity of the documents, useful in the case of airport or land transits and to be shown to the local authorities if necessary. This declaration can also be found on the websites of the main Italian consulates in Europe, in the languages of the respective countries of possible transit.

Extension of the validity periods of recognition and identity documents, as well as of residence permits and titles and travel documents
1. In article 104, paragraph 1, of Decree-Law no. 18 of 17 March 2020, converted, with amendments, by Law no. 27 of 24 April 2020, concerning the period of validity of recognition and identity documents, the words "30 April 2021" are replaced by the following: "30 September 2021".
