Here we go again. After the success of «I 7 Re di Roma», Enrico Brignano returns to the one man show with «Bello di mamma!» and brings it back to Switzerland for two appointments scheduled for early 2027: January 8 at the Kursaal in Bern and January 9 at Theater 11 in Zurich, produced by Vivo Concerti and Enry B. Produzioni. A show that, as the official synopsis explains, starts from a simple idea: that collective need to return to the embrace of childhood, «a mother's voice that dissolved fears, a cup of hot chocolate» in a world that runs too fast.
But while waiting to see him live, a video from a few years ago continues to circulate on social media that is worth watching again: the closing of a European tour that had touched Paris, London and Brussels, with Zurich as the final stop. And there, as only he knows how, Brignano turns everything upside down.
The comic game is that of the reversed stereotype: forget about chaotic Italians and rigid Swiss, in the monologue it's the Italians who suddenly become the people of precision and respect for rules, while the Swiss transform into a sunny, ironic people, even more «Latin lover» than the Latins themselves. A paradox that works precisely because it tells the exact opposite of what one would expect and that in the theatre earns applause from an audience accustomed to hearing itself described in quite another way.
Behind the laughter, however, the actor also leaves room for a more bitter moment: the memory of the signs «no entry to dogs and Italians» that once appeared in Switzerland, a legacy of the discrimination experienced by emigrants between the 1950s and 1970s. A harsh past, contrasted with the present of a Zurich today indicated as one of the cities in the world with the best quality of life. The contrast between yesterday and today becomes the heart of the story, a way to measure how much the perception of the Italian community in the Confederation has changed in just a few decades.
The tour's previous stop, Brussels, is not forgotten, dismissed with a joke about the city's linguistic complexity, divided between Flemish and a French that Brignano defines, with a thoroughly Roman taste, as «gastronomic». And finally, after touring Europe, comes the reckoning: returning to Italy becomes an urgent necessity, dictated not by homesickness but simply by the need to drink a real coffee.
A short video that, in a few jokes, mixes satire and historical memory and that today proves useful to understand how solid Brignano's relationship with the Italian audience in Switzerland has been for years. A bond that will be renewed live in January 2027, between Bern and Zurich, with a more intimate and more direct Brignano, ready to tell not the stereotypes between peoples but those, perhaps even more universal, between parents and children.
