A great celebration of music that began in 2019 with three dates at the Arena Flegrea in Naples: the concert event “Figli di un Re Minore”.
Gigi D'Alessio and Nino D'Angelo perform together for the first time: the two icons of Neapolitan music, bound by a long friendship of almost thirty years, yet always regarded as “enemies” on stage because of their audiences, almost genuine rival factions that have often seen each other as opponents. The two icons of Italian music and Italian song around the world sing duets and take turns on stage, going back over their unforgettable hits that have made four generations dream and sing. Between love songs and Neapolitan rhythms, there will be no shortage of moments to have fun with the innate comic verve of this pair. The setlist will be marked by complicity and unreleased duets, and the new tracks from “Noi due”, the latest album by D'Alessio, will not be missing either. Gigi and Nino are accompanied by a super band made up of the musicians of both: Alfredo Golino on drums, Giorgio Savarese and Lorenzo Maffia on keyboards, Roberto D'Aquino on bass, Maurizio Fiordiliso and Pippo Seno on guitars, Agostino Mennella on drums, Massimo Gargiulo on keyboards and piano, Guido Russo on bass, Mimmo Langella and Franco Ponzo on guitars, and the vocalist Milly Ascolese.

At the beginning of this adventure the two of them released a series of statements to sweep away the gossip about their alleged rivalry as well and, in particular, they told NapoliToday: “This appointment will above all be a meeting between two friends who care a great deal for each other and who argue every now and then, but in order to build something important. This is the first time that two pseudo-rivals like us, in reality always close, have decided to put their whole repertoire together on stage. The biggest job was putting together a setlist and we ended up with more than sixty songs”. It is Nino D'Angelo himself who explains the reason that pushed the two artists to work together: “Minor kings are the ones who will never be kings; in the song ‘Jamm jà’ I talk about exactly this subject. The project, which was due to take place in June, had been postponed because of an argument between us but, deep down, we are very good friends and everything was settled. Music is a particular environment and many have tried to set us against each other, but friendship always wins.” Then D'Alessio adds even more about his colleague: “Nino is a guarantee of success, he has been on the crest of the wave for over forty years. When I was young and coming into the world of songs as a musician, he was the first to glimpse talent in me. Thanks to working with him, in Naples I was considered a Serie A songwriter.” The new concerts come after the triple date at the Arena Flegrea in Naples last September and the encore with the double date, again in Naples, at the Palapartenope in December. They then also performed in Rome and Milan. Gigi D'Alessio and Nino D'Angelo are taking their show outside Italy as well: “Figli di un Re Minore” is indeed coming to Switzerland and to Germany with 3 dates in September 2020. The Neapolitan pair, who a few months ago found themselves on stage together for the first time, will be in Zurich exactly on 11 September, then move on to Sindelfingen on the 12th and finish in Düsseldorf on the 13th. We at Tuttoitalia are excited and cannot wait to attend this show devoted to Italian art and Mediterranean musicality.
