Marco Mengoni fills the Hallenstadion in Zurich, after the taste of it given to a decidedly smaller crowd that had already seen him perform at Komplex457 last spring. And he does not disappoint. Quite the opposite. The fans who ran to reach the barriers and see him up close were no less passionate than those who chose a seat in the stands: the emotion was palpable everywhere. So was the excitement of his entrance, preceded by images on the screen inspired by drawings, photos and moments from concerts already lived, which set off the audience in a deafening ovation.
The 25-song setlist draws on the moods and the creative suggestions of the Materia trilogy, alternating tracks from previous years with others never performed live. It opens with Essere umani, No stress, Muhammad Ali and continues with the songs from the latest album, but also with the version of the summer hit Pazza musica, with backing vocalists who replace Elodie with skill and a certain irony as they stride across the stage, which pleases and amuses.

On many songs Marco would not need to sing, it is enough to raise the microphone and let the whole Hallenstadion do it, yet he delivers vocal performances of the very highest level, in which his ever more convincing growth stands out both in technique and in vocal range. He is simply good, there is nothing more to say, and above all he is himself: in the way he lets loose on stage, but also when he stops and looks at the audience applauding and cheering him as if it were always an undeserved surprise.
Not only Italians, but also French, Spanish and in particular one young American woman who, without understanding the words, was moved to tears as she listened to Due vite for the first time: it is the power of music, you do not understand the words but Marco sings them, turning them into images, into memories and emotions. His power and the power of music.
