From 30.05.2026 to 05.10.2026 a new direct train will run between Zurich and Rimini, designed for the summer season and dedicated to those who want to reach the Riviera without intermediate changes. Every day a Eurocity connection will link Switzerland to the Romagna coast, crossing the entire territory of Emilia Romagna.
The service is the result of the collaboration between Trenitalia and the Swiss Federal Railways and represents a further step in strengthening international connections to one of the most popular tourist destinations of the Italian summer.
Towards Rimini, departure from Zurich is scheduled at 10.33 am with arrival at 6.23 pm. The return journey will leave at 9.52 am, arriving in Switzerland at 5.27 pm. Along the route, stops are planned in important cities of Emilia Romagna such as Bologna, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Piacenza, Faenza, Forlì and Cesena, in addition to the Swiss stops of Lugano, Bellinzona and Chiasso.
The initiative has been welcomed by the Emilia Romagna Region. Regional tourism councillor Roberta Frisoni pointed out that, alongside the historic Munich Rimini connection, the route from Switzerland is now being added, considered a strategic catchment area for regional tourism. The Region is already active on the Swiss market with television advertising campaigns and in collaboration with the tour operator RailTour Suisse.
According to Frisoni, the arrival of the new train represents an opportunity that the territories will have to make the most of, developing targeted services and offers for the Swiss public. Strengths include the more than twenty regional cycle routes, the Circuito dei Cammini and projects such as A’Spass by Visit Romagna, designed to connect the Riviera with the inland areas.
The mayor of Rimini, Jamil Sadegholvaad, also described the connection as strategic for consolidating flows from one of the most profitable markets, together with Germany and Austria. The announcement comes at a positive moment for the area, which in recent days has also seen Ryanair expand its flights, further strengthening the international accessibility of the Riviera of Romagna.
