In August nobody thinks about snow. That's exactly why hotel chains open their winter rates now: those who book when the thought of a ski week hasn't arrived yet pay less than those who get there in November, with weather forecasts open in another browser tab.
The mechanism is almost always the same and applies to most large groups. Cold season rates come out between late summer and early autumn, accompanied by a discount that doesn't stay open until December: it closes after a few weeks, long before the season begins. Those who move within that window get the best price. Those who arrive later find dynamic pricing, which rises as rooms fill up.

Let's talk about Radisson hotels, one of the main hotel chains internationally.Radisson opened the promotion on its resorts on 20 August and closes it on 6 September. It's valid for stays between 27 October and 28 February, in 113 properties worldwide, on rates with breakfast. The discount grows with duration: up to 25 percent from three nights, up to 35 from five. Radisson Rewards membership is required, which is free and can be done during booking, and code RESORTW4
When the discount grows with nights, splitting the holiday costs. Two three-night stays in the same place get the small discount twice; a single six-night booking gets the large one. Put like that it seems obvious, but it's the most common mistake of those who organize two long weekends instead of one full week.
There's a downside, and it needs looking at before clicking. Discounted rates almost always have more rigid cancellation conditions than standard ones, and in several cases are paid immediately without possibility of refund. In late October it can be a reasonable bet. With five months' notice and a family to coordinate on dates, it's worth reading the conditions line before reading the discount one.
