A national pride that Nerio Alessandri, founder of the brand from Romagna, confirms to us as well: “We always gladly present our company as an example of Italian excellence, to spur young people to believe in a project. When my brother and I founded the company in 1983, there was no business plan, we didn’t even have a telephone number, we contacted customers from the phone box at the end of the street! It was a difficult market to handle, because at the time there was the preconception that the machines were used only by body builders. Rocky, in the 1980s, trained by lifting pine trunks and was far more likeable than Ivan Drago… Back then there were only the dumbbell and the barbell, whereas now wellness, understood as physical well-being, a word that we, incidentally, invented, is not only physical strengthening but a search for balance. Our company was a promoter of these changes and was also boosted by the start of the use of equipment in the world of football, legitimising its usefulness for every discipline.”
Practising physical activity at home is therefore no longer a luxury for the few, but becomes a pleasure for the many. But cycling remains a sport in which, while it is unthinkable for a non-professional footballer to play at San Siro or for an amateur tennis player at Wimbledon, any cyclist can take on the route of the Giro d’Italia.
